FROM THE RECTOR Advent is the season tat teaches us the virtue of patient witing. This runs against the grain of who we are, especially us Americans. We want what we want, te way we want it, when we want it, and not a second later! Advent marches to the beat of a different drummer. In Advent we are reminded that God may seem slow to us, but he is actually right on time, every time. Scripture is full of holy waiting: Abraham and Sarah waiting for Isaac, Joseph waiting for years to see his family, Israiel waiting for centuries for her Messiah. Our faith sanctifies our waiting. Our faith transforms waiting to joyful expectancy. In fact, patience is one of the key signs of the Gospel taking root in a person's life. Remember the parable of the Sower and Soils in Luke's Gospel? As for that in the good soil, How is it that the Gospel of Christ causes patience to take root in our lives? Could it be that seeing live from God's perspective gives us the insight that eternity brings? Could it be that a Christ-centered focus makes our human impatience seem silly, immature and tone-deaf to the Word of God? Teach us, Lord, how to sanctify our waiting. We are having our usual array of Christmastide liturgies. In the meantime, from my family to yours, may you have a Blessed Advent and Merry Christmas!
