NORTHEAST NETWORK NEWS
October 2009 Edition

CONTENTS
1. A Note from Bishop Thad
2. Church News:    St. Andrew's Anglican Church

Thank you to all who contributed updates and prayer requests for this edition of Northeast Network News. It is our hope that this communication will keep our network connected throughout the year. Please continue to send in church news, updates and prayer requests to Jan Buchanan, Bishop and Network Administrator, at jbuchanan@apostlesct.org.

Bishop’s Note:

It has come to my attention in the last few weeks that the June ordination service at our retreat hurt and offended some people. The informal nature of the service in a retreat setting combined with a low-church liturgical order brought offense.

It is therefore my responsibility to own the moment and apologize to all offended. In the future, I will, and we will, do everything to make sure our worship together in network gatherings allows the breadth of our diversity so that there is a sense of comfort for all.

In my experience in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, under a godly Bishop, Alden Hathaway, we had great diversity as Anglicans: From high Anglo-Catholic mass to low-church liturgy, to Willow-Creek like seeker services; to charismatic contemporary services, churches that ordained women, churches that didn’t, and all under the Anglican banner. It made coming together for corporate worship a challenge.

That said, for others, and for those who actually designed the service that night, it was appropriate, and gathered from authorized Anglican liturgies. My intent is not to critique our different liturgies but rather to say that we will work intentionally to make our corporate worship something that gives blessing to all.

Church News

Church of Cross: Also at CotC, neighborhood groups are starting next week. Prayers would be appreciated for these, specifically that they would be places that encourage and facilitate engagement with the culture and the building of relationships with non-Christians. They are really encouraged at all the Lord is doing in their midst and are being blessed in weekly times of worship and fellowship together.

Christ Church, Midlothian: Mark and Yolie Browne moved at the end of September to a new home. Please pray for continued strength, guidance and encouragement as they settle in.

Church of the Resurrection, Washington, DC: Matt Anderson has relocated to Egypt to teach at an International University. Rev. Matthew Mason has accepted the position of Assistant Pastor. The Masons are from Tunbridge Wells, England. They will arrive in DC later this fall. Please pray for this transition and for peace in all the details of moving across the Atlantic (they are waiting for their visas to be granted). Aaron Damiani will be ordained to the transitional diaconate on October 18, 2008. He will also be joining the staff at Rez Church.

River of Life Christian Community, Columbia, MD: Earlier this year, Emmaus Anglican became River of Life Christian Community and relocated to a new worship space.  Please pray for financial muscle and for outreach into their community.

Christ Anglican Mission, Millville, NJ: This solid and steadfast fellowship is continuing to grow. They are in the search process to call a part-time rector. Please pray!

St Paul’s, NYC: On Sunday, September 27th, St. Paul's officially launched as a new Anglican church in New York City. More than 120 people gathered for worship, teaching, prayer and fellowship. The feedback the leadership team has received has been overwhelmingly positive - from the music to the preaching to, most importantly, the spirit of joy and openness that was present. We are very thankful for this strong beginning and ask for continued prayer support.

Church of the Apostles, Fairfield, CT: Apostles’ Youth Pastor, Micah Thompson and his wife, Jen welcomed their first child, Lydia Eileen on August 20. Soon after she was diagnosed with Zellweger Syndrome, a genetic disorder that has no cure. Now, at 8 weeks old, each day, each hour is a gift from the Lord. Please pray for this dear family. To read more of their story, please visit: www.lydiaeileen.blogspot.com.

St Andrew’s In the Valley, Nedrow, NY: The parish of St Andrew’s is looking forward to a visit from Bishop Thad on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.

Saint Andrew's Anglican Fellowship, Annapolis, MD: Under the leadership of Phil Lyman (formerly at St John’s the Evangelist, PA) this church plant has begun in Annapolis. The core group is made up of 6 households, with weekly attendance averaging 30 people. These are exciting times. Please pray for this new work!
